I spent my early formative years with Gavin Audognotti applying the Berklee School of Music principles to the guitar. This involved a very intensive approach to studying music with particular emphasis on scale and chord work. While completing my Bachelor of Arts degree at Wits University, I developed an interest in solo guitar playing. I signed on at the Westdene School for the Acoustic Guitar run by award winning guitar maestro Tony Cox. Under the tutelage of guitarist Greg Blanshard, I covered acoustic finger-style playing, a broad form of music that embraces a myriad of styles such as classical, jazz, rock, African and even country bluegrass. My interest in jazz theory and harmony was later enhanced by Luke Van der Merwe, head of the guitar department at the National School of the Arts and now regular “Noot vir Noot” session guitarist. Additionally, Spanish-flamenco, Rock-Metal skills were further polished by John Gerritsen & Steve Coles.
